Register for New Summer Taiko Classes!

Beginners and experienced, all ages welcome! The Taiko Center will offer two special summer courses starting in June. Check out the Taiko Classes Page for more info.

Get signed up for Fall Classes now!

Children's and Beginner Taiko Classes will "Re-Load" in September. Children from Kingergarten through 5th Grade - Mondays 5 - 6 PM. Adults/Tweens/Teens Beginner - Intro to Taiko Class will be Tuesdays from 7:30 - 8:30 PM.

Ann Arbor Classes - Working out details, but expect to be on Wednesdays starting in September.

Taiko Classes

Do you live in Michigan and want to learn Japanese taiko drumming? See the info to the left on beginner options for adults and children.

If you've been waiting to give taiko a try, now is the perfect opportunity. All are welcome, regardless of age, gender, musical ability, etc.

The Great Lakes Taiko Center offers classes for children and adults.

Children's classes:

pre-K - 1st Grade: 5:00 - 5:45 PM on Mondays

2nd - 6th Grade: 6:00 - 7:00 PM on Mondays

Adult classes:

Tuesday: 5:00 - 6:00 PM (Intermediate)

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM (Beginner - Starting in March 2013)

Thursday: 9:30 - 10:30 AM (Beginner)

10:30 - 11:30 AM (Advanced Beginner)

Wednesday (Novi) 7:00 - 8:30 PM (Intermediate)

(Ann Arbor) 5:00 - 5:45 (pre-K - 1st Grade)

(Ann Arbor) 6:00 - 7:00 PM (2nd - 6th Grade)

(Ann Arbor) 7:00 - 8:00 PM (Teen/Adult)

Saturday: 9 - 10:30 (Intermediate)

10:30 - Noon (Advanced Beginner)

We are listed on the Michigan Humanities Council Touring Program. Non-Profits are eligible to apply for grants to help cover the cost of hosting a performance or workshop.

Do you want to learn Taiko Drumming in Michigan?

"I've always wanted to learn taiko drumming, but don't think I'd be able to do it." Have you ever said that after seeing an exciting and energetic taiko performance? I told myself that for 7 years before I finally gave it a try. My only regret is that I didn't try it sooner.

We always welcome visitors to our classes to observe and/or participate. If you have not played taiko drums before, but would like to, please also consider one our beginner options.

Beginner Taiko Classes - Spring Session (12 classes)

Teen/Adult class - Tuesdays, 7:30 - 8:30 PM starting March 5. 

 

Not sure if taiko is for you? Register for the free workshop from Ms. Mizue Yamada of Hono-O-Daiko on Monday, February 25.

Children's class - Mondays, 5:00 - 6:00 PM starting March 11.
